Abstrak
Abstract
The inadequate educational results in Social Sciences (IPS) within Indonesia are frequently attributed to traditional teaching strategies that do not encourage critical thinking among students. This research intends to explore the impact of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) framework on the IPS academic performance of ninth-grade pupils, with particular emphasis on societal changes during the era of modernization. The analysis utilized a quasi-experimental design characterized by a quantitative approach. The participants were ninth-grade students from SMPI Nashirul Ummah Senori. Data were gathered using visual diagrams, observation sheet, and a pre test and post test consisting of 40 multiple choise qustions. The data were analyzed using SPSS, focusing on normal distribution, homogeneity, and conducting paired sample T-tests. The findings revealed a notable improvement in both student achievement and academic accivement following the application of the PBL method. Students from the experimental group exhibited enhanced problem-solving abilities and better cognitive scores than those in the control group. Therefore, it can be inferred that the Problem Based Learning method positively and significantly influences IPS learning outcomes, rendering it a strongly recommended instructional strategy for social studies education.
