Abstrak

The inadequate critical thinking abilities of SMPN 2 Gondang eighth grade students in the Pancasila Education course, especially when answering problems that requiring analytical and evaluation skills, became the main driving force of this research. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the extent to which pupils’ analytical thinking skills abilities in Pancasila education are impacted by the usage of HOTS questions in the classroom. This study implemented a quantitative quasi-experimental approach utilizing a non-equivalent control group framework. The research sample comprised 32 eight-grade student divided into two distinct groups, a treatment class and a comparison class made up the study's sample. Data collection methods included pre- and post-tests, observation, and recordkeeping. With the use of SPSS, descriptive statistical tests, N-Gain tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Independent Sample T-Test tests were used to examine the data. According to the findings, the experimental group scored an average of 37,19 and 73,13, whereas the control group scored an average of 34,69 and 43,75. The independent sample t-test's two-sided significance level was 0,000, which was below the 0.05 cutoff. The study's findings indicate that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, indicating that HOTS-based classroom discussion learning has a significant impact on the critical thinking abilities of SMPN 2 Gondang class VIII students during Pancasila Education sessions.
