Uncovering The Educational Values in “Broken Wings” By Kahlil Gibran

Abstract


abstract—This research is qualitative in nature. It aims to analyze the educational values in the novel Broken Wings by Kahlil Gibran. Broken Wings is one of the works of a famous writer, Kahlil Gibran. The novel Broken Wings narrates Kahlil Gibran's life in the past in a clear and open manner. The novel contains elements of religious aspects in Kahlil Gibran's daily life. In this study, the researcher used documentation methods to collect data. The results of the analysis of Kahlil Gibran's Broken Wings novel indicate that the author presents nine educational values out of the eighteen educational values according to the Indonesian government (Hartono, 2014). These nine educational values are religious, hard work, independence, friendly, love peace, likes to reading, environmental care, social care, and responsibility.

abstrak—Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji prinsip-prinsip pendidikan yang terdapat dalam karya Sayap-sayap Patah karya Kahlil Gibran. Novel ini adalah Salah satu karya penulis ternama yaitu Kahlil Gibran. Kehidupan Kahlil Gibran sebelumnya digambarkan secara transparan dan gamblang dalam buku Sayap – Sayap Patah. Kehidupan sehari-hari Kahlil Gibran memiliki aspek religi yang dimuat dalam cerita ini. Peneliti menggunakan teknik dokumentasi untuk mengumpulkan data untuk penelitian ini.. Hasil analisis yang telah didapatkan dalam novel Sayap-sayap Patah karya Kahlil Gibran menunjukkan bahwa sang penulis memunculkan sembilan nilai pendidikan dari delapan belas nilai pendidikan menurut pemerintah Indonesia di (Hartono, 2014), ke sembilan nilai-nilai pendidikan tersebut adalah religius, kerja keras, mandiri, komunikatif, cinta damai, gemar membaca, peduli lingkungan, peduli social, dan bertanggung jawab.
