Penerapan Metode Drill and Practice untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Menulis Teks Laporan Hasil Observasi Kelas VIII-A di SMP Negeri 1 Balen

Abstract—This research began by identifying the problem of students' insufficient writing skills in the Indonesian language subject at SMP Negeri 1 Balen, attributed to unengaging teaching methods that often render students passive. Lecturing and assignments were predominantly used by teachers. To address this issue, action research implemented the drill and practice method in teaching Indonesian language. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of applying the drill and practice method in enhancing students' writing skills. Employing the Action Research approach with Stephen Kemmis and Robyn McTaggart's model, the study consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. It was conducted over two cycles to gain a comprehensive understanding of the method's impact on students' writing skills. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, written tests, and documentation. The results indicated successful implementation of the drill and practice method. Teacher activity scores increased from 83.33 (good) in Cycle I to 95 (excellent) in Cycle II. Likewise, student activity showed significant improvement, with scores rising from 80 (good) in Cycle I to 92.5 (excellent) in Cycle II. This improvement was also reflected in the class average scores, which increased from 65.625 (sufficient) in Cycle I to 93.75% (excellent) in Cycle II, meeting the predefined performance indicators.
